Mix your own color

Have you ever sat really close to your TV? You probably noticed that the TV had tiny bright red, green, and blue rectangles, like the ones you saw on your computer monitor.

This trio is known as a pixel (short for picture element). By controlling the brightness of these red, green, and blue spots, one can display thousands of colors!

Vary the brightness of the red, green, and blue light emitted by your monitor using the controls below. You will see the color that you create in a new browser window.

RED GREEN BLUE

What happens when you turn off one color and leave the other two on?

How do you make pastels? Black? Yellow?

How do you think shining red and green light makes you see yellow?
